Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect in my first session?

Your first session is an initial assessment appointment. This is an opportunity for us to discuss what has brought you to therapy and your current concerns, any relevant history and clarify how therapy may support you and what your goals may be for therapy. I will discuss with you how Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) works and begin developing a plan for what therapy will look like for you. There is no pressure to share everything at once, we will work at a pace that feels comfortable for you! Initial assessments generally go for 60 minutes.

What do ongoing sessions look like?

After the initial assessment, sessions will focus on treatment and development of various skills. Depending on what your goals for therapy are, this may include: identifying and challenging unhelpful thinking patterns, developing coping strategies, building emotional regulation skills, building a healthy daily routine, improving confidence and self-esteem, processing difficult experiences where appropriate.

Sessions will be collaborative with you, structured and practical, whilst also allowing time for reflection . Treatment sessions will generally go for  45-50 minutes.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions will vary depending on your individual needs. Generally, many clients will attend 6-10 sessions initially. We will review your progress around the 10th session. If appropriate, we may take a planned break or continue with further sessions.

Therapy is goal-focused and will be reviewed regularly to ensure it remains helpful, effective and aligned with your needs!

How much will therapy cost?

Individual therapy sessions will cost $170 +GST per session. Group therapy programs are charged at a different rate and will be quoted separately, depending on the structure and duration of the program.

Almond Therapy & Counselling is a full fee-paying private practice. Payment is required on the day of your appointment.

Medicare

I am not a Medicare-registered provider, sessions are not eligible for a Medicare rebate and a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) is not required to access services.

NDIS

I am not a registered NDIS provider. However, I am able to see individuals who are NDIS self-managed or plan-managed. An invoice will be provided following each session, which can then be submitted to your plan manager or through the NDIS portal for reimbursement, in alignment with your plan.

Private Health Insurance

I am not currently registered with private health funds. If this changes in the future, clients will be notified. An invoice can be provided for you to submit directly to your health fund if eligible. Please note that I do not process private health claims on your behalf.

Invoicing & Payment

Invoices are issues following each appointment. Clients are responsible for submitting invoices to third parties (e.g. NDIS or private health insurers) if you are seeking imbursement. Accepted payment methods include cash, online card payments, bank transfer (EFT) or Square EFTPOS (will incur a 1.6% surcharge with EFTPOS).
